Frequently Asked Questions
What is Combat Robotics?
Combat robotics is a hobby and sport where participants build and compete with custom-designed, remote-controlled robots that fight each other in arenas, aiming to disable or destroy their opponents through various methods.
Do I need to make my own robot?
Yes, you will need to make your own robot
I have no background in Electronics, Engineering or Programming?
Learning how to build your own robot is not as complex as you might worry and many builders come from no related background. There are many resources out there to help you learn how to build your own bot.
What happens if my bot gets destroyed?
This is all part of the challenge and thrill of robot combat, learning how to fix your bot in a short timeframe between fights is a skill you will develop quickly. We all want to see our fellow competitors get back in the arena for their next fight and will help pitch in to get you back and ready to fight if you need the extra help
Does it cost money to come to an event?
There is a small registration fee per team competing for each event. Spectators are welcome for a gold coin donation.
How do I get started?
If you are new to the hobby we highly recommend coming along to an event as a spectator or reach out to us to so you can see how the bots work in person and we can help point you in the right direction.

Canberra Combat Robotics is run by James Green. He started competing in robot combat in 2019 in Brisbane and over the years has built over 20 bots and competed in over 30 competitions. After moving back to Canberra he wanted to be able to bring the hobby to the ACT by starting this group in 2025.
